Captain Marvel has to be the least favorite Marvel hero right now for EVERYONE. Every time I scroll around everyone's totally s**ting on Bri. I guess can understand; she's a bit bland. Not just her but the character. I didn't feel attached to Carol, though I did like her "alien-ness" in the first movie as she figures out her resources when she landed on earth.
I always look out for real reactions, as if the character really did exist, what would she do? What would she say? Re-watching some videos she has a little spunk to her, but most of the time she's so serious.
Y SO SERIOUS?!?!
I do love the effects of her cosmic powers, the sound effects, which still give me goosebumps. But I necessarily didn't jump out my seat in the theater when watching the fight scenes. Honestly one of the things that did made me smile in her first movie was when she Spider-Man woo while flying into space, demolishing ships by just simply bursting through them.
The girl knows she's OP, and shoot if I were flying I'd be hype too.
Good soundtrack too; I do love me some girl-rock.
But yeah, her movie didn't make it in my top five. However I still look forward to more of her as the saga continues. And when The Marvels got announced, oh dudes I crossed my fingers they had cramps. Not just for me but for every Marvel fan- because it seems lately like Marvel has been SLACKING... especially with Carol.
Well squad... I think we're okay. I think we're MORE than okay.
The Marvels was NOT terrible. Matter of fact I LOVED IT!
And you can disagree all you want- but I really enjoyed myself in the theater... even if it was fairly empty. Which really broke my heart! I cherish all the times I went to see the next crazy superhero movie with a packed theater. Everyone's hype gets me hype. It makes the experience more fun and memorable- I still remember the crowd I watched Endgame with at the IMAX theater in New York.
My boyfriend was my movie buddy, who also enjoyed the movie, and when we got home I still had a stupid smile on my face saying "thanks for taking me to the movie dudeeee I really liked it." And I went ON AND ON ABOUT WHATS GONNA HAPPEN NEXT... for the next couple days.
Anyways, YES THE MOVIE WAS GREAT!! And I'm so happy, and so RELIEVED.
Spoilers ahead.
Before watching The Marvels, obviously, you HAVE to watch Ms. Marvel and Wandavision so you can piece everything together. Both really great shows- but Ms. Marvel had to be my favorite from the two.
Kamala Kahn SAVED IT!
I can't express enough how much I absolutely LOVE this character. But I'll start with one word: Relatable.
Coming from a strict family, I felt for Kamala wanting to go out for an adventure and to be with her friends. The world is understandably scary and f**ked up. Imagine in the Marvel Universe with Loki attacking New York and terrorists dressed in costumes to ruin your whole day? Yeah, I guess I can't blame Kamala's parents.
Watching Ms. Marvel sent a strike of lightning to my head. Literally girl same. My family is the type that I have to figure out a whole Powerpoint presentation asking to go out with friends.
Another reason why I absolutely love Kamala is her imagination. This girl's head is wayyy in the clouds The fun montages of her drawings coming to life made her series so enjoyable and charming to watch.
Growing up, my mind was the same exact way, and still is, still thinking I'm the character in a music video. So it was really cool to see the comic-heroes flying into the distance when she was in the backseat of her parent's car, to see Kamala utterly fangirling over Captain Marvel and Nick Fury and her reaction when she went into hyperdrive the first time.
Girl's funny as s**t and I wanna be her friend so badly!
And she's a little fighter!
I had a blast watching the fight scene where they kept swapping into Kamala's house, into space, and in the SWORD ship, with THE QUEEN Missy Eliot playing in the background with the kinda beat that go RA TA TAAAA RA TA TAAAA ~
Little K.K had done some training, fighting almost like Spider-Man jumping off walls and TAG TEAMING WITH MOTHERF**KING NICK FURY!
And Intergalactic played when the girls practiced their switching-- another favorite scene <3 Beastie Boys was PERFECT for this scene, of this MOVIE of showing off another trio working together. I wish for more moments like these in the future movies with the Young Avengers.
You can imagine that the teaser for this movie got me so hype.
My other favorite part is her family going into space to sort of court Kamala, similar to going with your kid to the movies with a bunch of their friends to keep an eye on them.
Dude... been there. It f**king sucks.
But when they were in the ship trying to escape with Fury, her brother started ranting in Hindi, and Nick Fury was like:
"ARE YOU PRAYING?" [Silence] "WELL DONT STOP!"
OMG I was laughing my ass off at this scene!! Fury is so real and he has to be the other best thing this movie could have.
I also thought about a fun theory after the fight scene in the singing planet.
So the Marvels got new drip. Kamala has a scarf, and its... whippy. Stretchy. Almost elastic.
Ms. Marvel in the comics has stretchy powers almost that of Mr. Fantastic.
While watching this scene I thought about the bangles; they unlocked her mutant gene and sort of buffed her stretchy powers with that of light energy. And with the talk of the X-Men, eventually Kamala will meet other mutants. Professor X.
Maybe when Kamala took off the bangles her arms will be stretchy like the scarf, and she will have to learn how to use this raw power of her mutation.

But yeah I think I was wrong. When Monica went into another universe, Kamala reached for Carol with her big lit hand. Welp :( It was a fun theory.
Then Carol got herself into some planet drama... becoming the Anniliator
I kind of blanked out from that lore, but when I re-watched New Rockstars then I felt like I understood the story a bit better
She's been busy.
Wiping out an AI thinking she's saving Hala but then to actually make it worse, making her the most hated woman in Kree-kind.
Goooood job bro, no wonder why this villan is salty.
But this villan IS CRAZYYYY! She tried to take the sun from our f**king solar system. Now THATS an apocalypse, and perhaps worse than what Thanos f**king did! Without the sun we would die within two days, and humans would cease to exist (in one universe).
The Marvels became the new world-savers. And now Flurken are silently roaming amongst the planet...
DON'T PET THAT CAT!
Anyways. War.
I get overwhelmed thinking and understanding war because its SUPER CONTROVERSAL but like Erik said Carol was a U.S Airforce Pilot so she has her own values about politics and international conflict. She then applies that mentality to the universe as her new role as Captain Marvel and other planets.
Planets. Not countries.
Entire civilizations and alien races.
So in the past films, Carol was pretty... cold. And I can see why. This movie helps shine a light onto her character, to fix her mistakes, and to befriend Kamala and rekindle with Monica.
It was an interesting story. And I was honestly convinced from Dar-Benn to join make peace with Carol and bring the sun back to Hala. But she still has hate, died from misuse of the bangles, and poof Monica.
And Carol literally flew into Hala's sun and made it work again. THATS ALL IT TOOK? :( Movie would've been over if she did that earlier
But Kamala's reaction towards her hero in a downfall.
She said something along the lines of Carol being a "real person", and that really stuck to me.
Yes, Carol is a real person. She's not like a robot or AI like Vision (even though he definetly tops her). It was nice to see them talk, to see Kamala learning from her idol about responsibilities of being a hero.
I need to see watch the movie again so I can fully digest this scene. It says a lot.
Then... the end credits.
Okay, I actually have a weird story.
The night before we watched Ms. Marvel I decided to watch X-Men Last Stand. It was right in front of me on my Disney + feed. And I posted this:

Hank Beast is such an awesome f**king character! Wise, fluffy, strong, fair, I hunger for more characters written like this. I studied how he tried to make peace between humans and mutants, which is a common problem in the world treating others as outcastes based on their appearances or beliefs.
My cousin replied to my story mentioning something about Ms. Marvel and I was a little confused so I yelled at him DONT SPOIL IT FOR ME
Next night I watched it, end credit scene rolls... AND THERE HE WAS!

I practically predicted the future.
But I am SO HAPPY. We got the X-Men boiz.
And sure we got Professor X in Multiverse of Madness, but this scene confirms that X-Men lays within another universe and might make its way into 616 to bring back Monica.
But there's different X-Men universes. Deadpool's Colossus is NOT the same as the Colossus kid in Last Stand; we got hunka big Russian man vs hunka frat guy. So I wonder how those universes are going to play out, if they changed his character.

Is the OP Jean Gray alive? Rogue? Kitty?
We're getting Hugh Jackman as Wolvie again so... how does he tie within all this?
Is Magneto Wanda's real father?
And then there's Kamala again. If X-Men is in a different universe, does that mean her ancestors were also mutants who traveled through the multiverse??? Her great grandmother Alicia??
Lots of questions. Lots.
Overall?
Fun f***g movie. It may not be perfect, the best, but I was really relieved it didn't bore me and it practically cleaned all the worries I initially had.
I'm super excited for the Young Avengers the ending with Kamala playing Nick Fury recruiting Kate made me rub my hands together going HERE WE GO!!!
Next we're gonna get T'Challa's kid, Cassie Lang, one of the X-Men, Skarr, Wiccan and Speed, Ironheart, maybe America Chavez and Eli (Isiah's grandson from Falcon and Winter Soilder)
So these are my thoughts now
The Marvels was a fun and charming movie I think young girls would really love it.
It felt very... disney-ey. Cats (flurken) swallowing people alive to "Memory", the sing-song planet and Carol wearing a gown, a trio of girls working together, relating to Kamala's teen ways.
So random, yet so darling.
No doubt the rise of the young avengers will start to get younger audiences to watch, while us adults will disect everything from the comics we grew up with to further educate them and nod our heads to see if these writers are on track with the story.
I wouldn't rate it a 10. Honestly, the only Marvel film I'd rate a 10 would be both Spider verses and No Way Home.
I'd give the movie a solid 8.
It delivered us sooooo much build up to be excited for more. Kamala was the best, the rekindling between Carol and Monica, forging the mission that Carol will investigate multiverses to get her back home, and showcasing one of the worst threats any MCU villan made next to Thanos.
Kamala now knows what she signed up for to be an Avenger: scarified, disappointment, emotions. I'm excited to see her character grow, balancing her quirky teenage ways with her leader qualities bringing together the Young Avengers.
I'm looking forward to watch this again when its out on Disney + :)
I DEMAND MORE KAMALAAAAAAA!
